1. Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) is a considerably underestimated
condition, affects almost half of premenopausal sexually active women.
2. Various mediators, including dopamine, norepinephrine, melanocortin,
oxytocin, testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, vasoactive intestinal
polypeptide, nitric oxide, calcitonin gene-related peptide and
neuropeptide-Y play a role in female sexual function.
3. Many factors may contribute to FSD, including obesity, diabetes
mellitus, smoking, hyperlipidemia, heart diseases, liver failure,
alcoholism, depression, drug abuse or medications.
